Once interviewed and approved by the Customer, you will need to first go through a 4-week basic background investigation process, then you can start immediately.  (Contract award expected 12/15/11.)

Primary Skill Set and Job Description

Primary Support Function Area:  Platform Administration
Your primary role as Platform Administrator will be to work on-site, full-time, at the Customer’s Suitland, MD facility to assist with administering the SAS9 software environment (dev, test and production), on a Blade Linux platform.  Services may include focus on:

  • Checking the status and operations of SAS servers and processes, including starting, stopping, and/or pausing the servers/processes used in the SAS system.
  • Managing metadata repositories.
  • Performing and scheduling regular backups of the Metadata Server and physical files.
  • Monitoring, logging, and/or troubleshooting SAS servers and processes, including error messages and using system logs or setting logging options as well as options within SAS Management Console (SMC).
  • Troubleshooting basic SAS server issues, such as system access and password problems.
  • Understanding SAS installation directory structures, where to find things related to servers, configurations, content, etc.
  • Administering the scheduling of jobs and reports.
  • Using SMC to administer metadata.
  • Adding new libraries to the Metadata Server.
  • Via SMC, controlling user access to various parts of the SAS system, granting permissions to read, write, create or view reports and data within the system – ensure that Users see only the information that they are authorized to access. Create and configure libraries and permissions for Users and groups of Users, and assign logins. Design, implement, and maintain the security framework, including securing data at the library, dataset and column level and leveraging ACT’s and ACE’s as applicable (with access rights and privileges, user roles / groups, etc.).
  • Creating an authentication plan for securing the SAS platform resources, utilizing alternative authentication providers such as LDAP.
  • Performing basic system administration tasks such as monitoring CPU/RAM/Disk space utilization, port utilization and running processes on applicable OS.
  • In a logical, scientific manner, troubleshooting SAS-related performance issues by working with customer’s systems administrators, network administrators, web application server administrators, database administrators and/or storage administrators.
  • Understanding the concept of SAS repositories, what they are, why they are used and how to create/maintain them.
  • Understanding how SAS interacts with third party software such as databases, web application servers (specifically Weblogic), etc.
  • Resetting SAS passwords.
  • Assisting with problems pertaining to accessing the SAS server(s) or data.
  • Monitoring for availability and then installing updates to SAS software (patches / maintenance releases / hot fixes, etc.).
  • Monitoring and logging SAS servers and spawners, and then optimizing memory usage or tuning servers for optimal performance.
  • Creating, modifying, and maintaining various folder structures within SMC.
  • Configuring relevant processes for load balancing and pooling when and where appropriate.
  • Applying utilization, configuration and promotion of development, test, and production environments.
  • Working with the Customer systems administrator to secure server resources and file systems to ensure SAS objects having a server component are secure via the operating system.
  • Interfacing with the Customer Web Application Server Administrator when needed pertaining to SAS web applications.
  • Assisting Customer users with SAS code from an administration perspective (e.g., helping issue OS level commands from within SAS programs).
  • Providing knowledge transfer, mentoring and expert advice to Customer on the efficient administration of the SAS system.
  • Keeping records of and documenting the entire SAS environment, including detailed records of problems that have occurred and the associated resolutions.
  • Interfacing with SAS Technical Support.
  • Leading and/or actively participating in SAS knowledge-sharing activities.

Secondary Support Function Area:  EBI Usage and Development
Use of SAS9.2 EBI, strictly from an out-of-box SAS BI functions development perspective, in the following areas:
NOTE: For more complex BI development requirements emerge, we will bring on additional BI consulting resources (separate from you) when necessary to address those requirements.

  • Developing reports using information maps and stored processes.
  • Develop dashboards using the underlying data.
  • Assistance in Information Map Studio, Web Report Studio, OLAP Cube Studio, Enterprise Guide.
  • Developing portal page using Information Delivery Portal.
  • Develop portal page to organize the reports based on cost, progress and quality.
  • Develop portlets.

The Candidate will need to go through a credit / criminal background investigation prior to work commencement.  This process normally takes 4-6 weeks, and includes completing 4 or 5 forms on-line and getting fingerprints.  Financial problems will be grounds for rejection.   
 

NOTES:

  • Expected to work Monday—Friday; full days. (Can’t really arrive late Monday or depart early Friday, unless the relationship established over time allows that.)
